On a bicycle to South Africa

We, Jens Deister and andreas Lappe , started our journey on the 3.3.1990 in Frankfurt/Germany and ended it on the 22.3.1991 in Cape Town/South Africa. We cycled the entire route except for the passage across the Mediterranean Sea from Trapani (Sicilia) to Tunis. The projected distance of 15000 kilometers became 25500 kilometer in the end.

travelled through:
Switzerland, Italy, Tunesia, Algeria, Niger, Benin, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Republic of Central Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa.

Our tour report starts with a short explanation of how we prepared ourselves for this trip. Then follows the complete report in chronological order. Every page contains a link "next" so that you can read the report in chronologically.

Alternatively, you can choose a specific passage with the help of the navigation strip on the left hand side. You can adjust the strip to your specific needs with the mouse. Also, the navigation contains two links at the top so you can change between the index of the complete report, the index of the "Tour-Highlights" and the map index.
The chronological index of the complete report helps you to choose specific passages, even so they are just mentioned and not described in detail. Thats why you will find almost all geographical stations which are mentioned in the report, even so they are just mentioned and not described in detail.

It is not possible to open more than one map at a time, because they are shown in one window only. If you want to see a different map you have to close the previous one first, even if it moved into the backround.
