Our Kindergarten project in Khayelitsha

After our year long journey to the Cape of Good Hope, we, Jens and Andreas, decided to convert our hobby into a profession. We will show cyclists and hikers the Southern African region as we have experienced it: with respect for it's people and nature, with eyes for the beautiful parts of these countries, but also realistic enough to show the challenges of the young democracy in South Africa.
In 1993 after we returned back to Germany we immigrated to South Africa and made our home in Cape Town. In the same year we founded African Bikers Tours (see contact page) and are organising personalized tours in Southern Africa: mountain bike and road bike tours, hiking tours, as well as adventure tours and safaris.

Since September 1998 we have been supporting a Kindergarten project in Khayelitsha the largest township in Cape Town. 170 children between the ages of 6 months and 7 years old are looked after. The kindergarten also includes a preparatory school (see picture above). Further information about this project you find at our African Bikers homepage.

Cape Town city, view from Blouberg beach

We live in the city bowel of Cape Town between the busy part of down town with its street cafe's, shopping malls, skyscrapers and discos, and the all-dominating Table Mountain on the other side. At the foot starts a unique National Park which stretches right down to the Cape of Good Hope where you find baboon, ostrich and various antelope; what contrast within a distance of less than 10 km!

Want to have a look at how Table Mountain looks today? At www.happy.co.za a live web-cam shows you all. Or rather the endless beaches on the False Bay side? Just type www.ccii.co.za (the download takes a moment...).
